I currently run a 4" stroke with 1.0" compression height. I recently had to run a different fuel and lifted the ring lands on 3 pistons. I was thinking of going to a 5.85 rod to get a little more on the top. My builder supposedly talked to JE and they supposedly said that I won't gain enough to really make a difference. I've also heard that as long as the tune up is right and the rings have a good seal it shouldn't matter. This is on a 2kit SBC.
Opinions?

I have run from 1.150 - 1.250 pistons always had more than enough room for .250 up top.. Only problem I had with a 1.150 (.350" ring stack and a .990 pin) as the wrist pin hole broke thru the top of the oil ring land. I had problems with oil rings getting up in this area and sticking.. Bill Miller always gave me the best results on pistons...

Paul, my combo is splattered all over the MR site. BTW - PM Sent
Went ahead and ordered the same slugs as last time. I learned a big lesson and that's not to change fuel at the track. I always run VP and wound up with Sunoco at the last race which I believe led to my problem. If I run into problems this go-round I might have to look at shortening the rod and getting some different pistons.
