Hey Hutch, I know you are anti glide but I was wondering what you thought about this? My car is an 85 camaro. It weighs 3230 with me in it. I run a local drag radial class that is limited to a 275 radial and no electronics. I have run a best of 9.20 with a 1.33 60'. Leaving off the foot brake with the nitrous delayed 3 tenths. The motor is a pump gas 434 that made 628 horsepower and 578 lb ft. I was spraying 275 through it this year. Now that the car is leaving decent the turbo 350s are not lasting too long. I need to step it up for next year. I was thinking of going to a glide since traction is iffy on poor tracks. I could also keep my existing crossmember (also my torque arm mount) and I like the aftermarket case since I don't need shields. What do you think? Should I try a glide or change to a 400?

Thanks,Jeff

I have a glide from Hutch. He can do glide or T400. I've been told that a heavy car like yours will work better with a T400. My nitrous motor burned fewer pistons with the T400 because it didn't lug as hard as the glide at launch or on the shifts. I'm curious what Hutch has to say.

jeff it would be an easy swap to put a pg in your car..all u would need is a stock gearset glide there cheap..with the delay i dont think u need one of those big dollar gearsets..all i have is a stock glide with a brake

First , Im not anti glide , they just aren't my personal preference but still the most popular transmission in drag racing.
It would make the swap easy to go with a glide for the reasons you have stated and as far as which would be faster I would have to say with the delayed hit deal a 400 may be a good choice but the majority of these types of cars have been equally quick with glides. I really don't want to decide for you as the end result may be a draw , performance wise.
If shields of room for shields is a problem the dedenbear case is a nice addition although I would not want to play roulette with a stock gearset in a case like that, its only a matter of time until stock gearsets smash sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you don't and when they break sometimes the case breaks also.

Hope this helps ,Hutch

Thanks for your input. I'm leaning towards the 400. I'm worried the car is gonna slow up with the taller low gear. I also drive the car on the street alot and feel trans temps will be lower with the 400. I dealt with sheilds on my 350 so it's not the end of the world.
