Can someone help me out, I have a transmission that came out of a new H1 hummer chasiss, it has a 13 bolt oil pan, about the same size as a TH400, I was told it was a 4L80E, I think it might be a 3l80E, How can you tell the differance. The metal tag on the side says : Turbo Hydromatic MH 2296 A # 93 MHA 1889, Thanks for any Help! Here is a link to more Pictures: http://s44.photobucket.com/albums/f31/jmj540/Chevelle%20bumpers%20to%20return/ , Thanks! Thanks Hutch, I never messed around with anything But TH350's and 400's, When it was offered to me, looked like a new 400, kept it around for a backup, Two buddies told me H1 hummers only used 4l80e's, I thought maybe the internals made it different until I looked it up, Not even close to what I have. Can I use any of these parts in a older 400? The output shaft looks shorter , and the spline looks different, Probably for the transfer case, Thanks again Hutch! Jay.
Yes, most everything can be used in an older TH400. Yours has the very short output shaft and adapter plate for the 4x4 transfer case to attach to, which both can be readily replaced with the more typical 4" tailshaft housing and corresponding output shaft. FWIW, many internal components of a modern 4L80E can be used in an old TH400 also, and I believe that some of these parts are stronger.
