axle housing ????

I am running a Moser 12 bolt that is stock width in a first gen. F-body with leaf springs. Would like to know if anyone has narowed there housing by 1" and just cut the 1" off the axle because they are splinde long? I am trying to get a little more tire and wheel inside the fender well and not move the springs. Any info would be great thanks.

if you are SURE you have enough spline to go back in the spool/posi, then yes you can. You need about 1 inch of spine engagement minimum.
Cut the axles ends with a chop saw and debur the ends. Also a proper housing jig to weld the ends back on makes life a buch easier....
