What is the best ballast placement for getting the car up on the back tires quickly? It's a mid 10second car, '68 mustang, running goodrich 275-60 15's, caltracs, and ranchos.
So far best 60' has been 1.44 on excellent track. But the car doesn't lift the front end like other drag radial cars I've seen. I think I need to get front end up higher and quicker.
Right now I have ballast at bumper height as far back as I can get it. Should I reposition the ballast higher... like above the rear axle?

Does the class have a min. weight?

3100 lbs.
Weight percentage is currently biased to the rear of the car

I would say you have other problems than ballast. I would start with the front end this is where most DR cars have the most problems with hooking up

Best place to add more weight? On the other guys.

I guess my question is, would ballast weight be better if placed high over top of the rear axle, or back by the bumper?
The further back the weight, the more weight will be placed on the rear tires and front end weight will decrease. But I'm not sure if this matters once the car's in motion?
I've heard ballast weight as far back is possible is "old school" but not sure if that is a good thing or bad.:smt102

I'll agree with the best palce is on your competition's car.
You shouldn't need any ballast to get traction and the front up.
Tell in detail what your rear suspension is and what your front suspension is. Adding dead weight to the rear makes no sense to me.

but what if you had to add weight to run the class..wouldnt it be better to add it in the trunk?thats what i plan to do this time.but with nearly 2000hp and 10inch slicks i need all the hook i can get.LOL

Exactly. I need to add the weight to make minimum class weight anyway. Just trying to figure out best place to put it!
On the other hand, I'll gladly give my ballast to Swanson...but he'll probably just go faster! :p
Your car should react quicker with the weight right over the housing.
You really need to video tape the car and watch what it is doing. Alot of cars hit the tires to hard and then blow them off.
Also you want to make sure you have no binding in any of your suspension components front and rear. All control arms should pivot freely.
