c4 problems

i was moving one of our cars and the trans started acting up. at first i didnt have forward gears, but reverse was fine, then all i had was forward and the trans wouldnt come out of gear. its a c4 in a mustang. i gonna pull it and put another one in and have it checked out, but wanted to know if there was something simple i could check before i pull it. tahnks paul kramer

Check the shifter linkage and fluid level. The C4 shift arms that squeeze onto the round trans stub do have a tendency to come loose sometimes and it throws everything off.

the linkage is tight, thats the first thing i checked. i pulled the pan off and the linkage inside is moving how it should too. i guess i'll pull it out and let somebody take a look at it. thanks
