View Full Version : Barry Bonds?

I'm just curious what you all think of Barry Bonds and him breaking Hammerin' Hanks record?

Personally I think that because they know, he has admitted to taking steriods,(although he says he didn't know they were ) his accomplishments shouldn't count.

I have no proof mind you, but when you look at his older pictures, and the way he looks now, something's going on with him. Being older, I know first hand that it's WAY harder to build muscle mass the older you get. He's progressively gotten bigger with age.

It just upsets me that he can cheat and still be allowed to be put in the record books. The man he's over-taking did it without all of the drugs and junk. He is a real hero.

thanks Carl. I didn't realize that steriods weren't illegal until '05! I guess that changes things some. Since they weren't illegal, why not just admit to using them?

Legal or not its BS.
I dont agree with trying compare todays atheletes to yesterdays in any sport. Times are different and the atheletes themselves are very different. Look at golf, how good do you a Nicholas or a Plamer or a Hogan would be today with the modern equipment? Not to take anything away from Woods or anybody else but they aint playing with the same clubs and balls that these guys did. Baseball, fooball, racing is all the same.

The only problem with your golf analogy is that the courses back then were much shorter and the greens were slower.

Todays courses are being lengthened every year to accomodate for the equipment.

Thats true. But golf is still way different today than it was then. Same as every other sport. I had the pleasure of knowing Walter Cudzik for a time several years ago. He had some real good stories from the early days of football. How many of todays "Superstars" would clean the field before the game? How many of todays football greats would play in a cow pasture complete with holes, rocks and cow manure?

Something about todays and yesterday...I was watching videos of guys jumping bikes awhile back, getting crazy air and doing all kind of stunts. Pretty neat stuff. My buddy asked me who I thought the best jumper was and I said hands down Evel was. He laughed, said these guys are jumping farther that he ever thought about. I told him your right, they are. And when they do it on a Harley Davidson (or a Norton) like Evel did I will be impressed....

I think there is no way in hell he should be credited for the record....unless he was clean like the others. They also play a lot more games in a season today. In order to make a fair comparison they should have adjusted his HR's to a per game average. That way if Bonds hit 50 in 100 games it could be correlated more accurately to Hanks 30 in 55 games....just pulling random numbers out of my ass for comparison's sake, so don't crucify me for fact inaccuracy. In that case, you can clearly see who should own the title.

I think he deserves the record.

If you look at the pictures over the years he just didn't magically get bigger. They showed him on ESPN today and how he looked for every major HR 100, 200 and so on he seemed to start getting bigger around the time he hit 300.

Besides roids are not going to make you hit the ball it still takes skill to do that.

Most of the storied baseball players all had all sorts of dirty little secrets and were, for the most part not good people.

People need to find something more worthwhile to obsess about.

Well then, whats the point of keeping records if they are all going to be different? I guess Hanks record is different then Ruths, and i guess ruth's is different from whoevers record he broke? Whos to say these guys werent doing something illegal?

Personally, id rather deal with a guy doing roids then a drunk who risks hurting others.

Ditto, I agree as well.

As far as steriods, it usuage for strength enhancement has nothing to do with making contact with the ball. However, it can be argued that once contact is made that the enhanced strength could help drive the ball further. I've stood next to Hank Aaron and he's not a big guy, it was all in his wrists.
Being able to hit a baseball is directly related to wrist speed, bat speed and eye-hand coordination. There's lot's of guys that are good enough to play major league defense but the inability to "hit" in general at the major league level is what keeps them out of the majors.

The first time I saw a 90+ MPH fast ball, I found out quick that you can't hit what you can't see and timing is everything.

Personally, I think it's like comparing a normally aspirated car that broke the 9 second mark to a similar car (weight, cubic inch, etc) with say a 100 shot of nitrous that did the same thing. Not exactly what I call a fair comparison, and definately not very credible.

I don't think he deserves it either. I think he is an arrogant Ahole.

Comparison of before/after roids for Bonds.... looks like his HR's doubled after starting the juice.

I think any person who has the word professional in their title should act like one. Most "athletes" today are far from being professional.

Rather than being called "Professional Athletes", they should be called "PrimaDonna Athletes".

The day I waste my time watching professional sports is the day they get paid a reasonable wage for playing a f'n GAME! My time or dollars will not be supporting them until then.

pine tar, corked bats, spitballs, etc-these things have been around forever, maybe even steroids-all kind of like hollywood has beens doing the plastic surgery, just to keed going a little longer-you dont hit 755 homers doing drugs, or lots of others would do it-he has talent, maybe a little help was needed, but who else is close, although i though griffin jr. would if he had'nt been offen injured
the babe was a 20 game winner as a picture, didnt play everyday, so should hank have an astrick, hell no
like mark mcquire, they will prob. snub bonds for a while when he is eligible for the hall

Jeff, you're right. Everyone is on roids, our cattle all are implanted with synovex.
Same for our chicken an so on.
I think that's why the kids our bigger today an there's more health problems.
I own a farm an I've been implanting my beef cattle for over 25 yrs. with roids now.
If you don't you'll go broke when it comes time to auction them off.
The more they weigh the more money they bring.

As for Bonds I could care less if he's on the gas. He's still a great ball player.
I see that Stallone(Rocky) just got busted for having HGH when filming a movie in Australia.

If Jose had dirt on A-Rod I think he would have put it in his first book. You don't hold out on stuff like that. I doubt anyone would have talked with him after his first book, at least anyone with some dirt.

When they first started giving that stuff to the animals in our food supply my mom said it would have an impact. Sure enough, just look at how soon girls get breasts now and on average they are bigger.

Has anyone ever thought why some people non-athletic types are larger these days?

They are lazier that's why. I can remember days either walking or riding my 10 speed to the library to get info.

Yep me too. Along with being lazy, our kids have DVDs and video games instead of playing tag and riding bikes.

It's really funny, but the fatter you get the more you eat. I know that sounds stupid, but you become content with your wieght. At 232 lbs ( in January) I realized that I was a tub of lard when I looked in the mirror and got turned on by my man-boobs!:smt081 Sense then I've been running and walking everyday and now I'm 192. I've lost 40 lbs! Yeah, I'm bragging a little, I'm proud of that! But I wish I never had gained the weight to begin with. The other thing is that I've noticed that the the thinner I'm getting, the longer I work out the less appitite I have.

Anyways. In the big sceme of things...whether Barry Bonds record is good or bad, who cares.....

Physical skills diminish with the onset of age. The steroid use by Bonds may not have given him the skills to hit home runs but, they allowed him to keep playing the length of time he needed to break the record. "Rejuvination Clinics" prescribe HGH and steroids to their clients to allow them more physically active lifestyles. Synthetic hormones allow you to build and keep muscle mass normally otherwise unobtainable. What physical condition would Bonds have been in without them? We'll never know. Obviously there's no question that Bonds used steroids. I just really can't stand the fact he pleads ignorance to having them applied to him "unknowingly". What a joke!!!

Anybody else amused about Jesse Jerkson stating how we should not be bothering Barry "the Juiced" Bonds? He hasn't been found guilty of anything in a a court of law, so we should lay off.

However, what we have here are millions of people doing the same thing, trying to convict a man without any evidence of any crime or rule violation committed.

People are doing the same exact thing they want JJ to apologize for... To phucking funny.

Are any of you going to publically apologize when nothing comes of all this steroid nonsense.
