I had a question about heads with forced induction motors. I know that in a NA motor you are concerned not only with port volume, but also with port velocity as well. in a forced induction application is port velocity as important?

If you were picking the ideal head for this application would you look for good exh ports, good intake ports, large runners. what is the most important thing to look for? I realize that the entire package is important, but I would suspect that some things are more important to look for than others.?.?

thanks a bunch

I can tell you this my heads are AFR 215 cnc ported out of the box. Forced induction engines probably don't need super big intake ports like n/a or nos engines. Best thing to do is talk to some head people.

Right on Jim, thanks. I think for the time being im going to leave my heads alone & see how they work.

It's a fine balance, but exhaust flow, and area under the curve for exhaust flow is very important when considering a turbocharged engine, since the higher the velocity, without choking the engine is best.

Supercharged is a bit different, more like a nitrous combination, when it comes to exhaust port design and flow, since the exhaust itself needs to scavenge itself and is not used for anything else.

Intake port is still very important, because even under pressure a bad port design will still flow less than optimum, but has less effect than N/A applications.

FYI, when AFR cnc ports their "215cc" head, they are actually 242cc's!!!
Atleast thats what AFR told me.
They flow mid 320's for cryin' outloud! Can that even be done with a 215cc port without spending big $$?

How about a 12 degree head and a f3 procharger on a 585.
