who has hit a stock cast bbc crank up around 900 t0 1000hp on the jug?
Weve seen these sbc and ford 302 to 700+ but what the limit on a well prepped and balance bbc?
Or an aftermarket like scat cast 9000 bbc?

i would not hit any cast crank with much juice. little own something with good power off motor. just my 2 cents.

I know you are asking about bbc but here's some info on my sbc.

I sprayed my Scat cast 9000 with 275 last year with great success, probably 15 bottles or so on my 600hp stock block 406. Bearings looked cherry when we pulled it apart yesterday. The crank will be magged shortly to see it's condition which I'm sure is just as cherry.

Ive seen about 750 or so, id love to hear about someone pushing the limits. Like eds advanced 3/8 rods to 8800rpm.

Well, the crank came out tonight and looks nice except the 3 center caps walked and are now junk. Good thing for the studs...

That 600 above was n/a so that's 875 on the unit.

Man you are lucky. We have seens signs of main capo trying to walk with stock prepped block 400 at around 830. I tell everyone that 800 is the max limit. I for sure think you have an angel on your shoulders to get that much hp from a CAST Scat (?) . I have no confidence in any cast steel crank.

Factory Cast Nodular Iron though is a different story. I like those, up to a point.

Like eds advanced 3/8 rods to 8800rpm

You got that wrong. The 8,800 rpm engines I had were using the 7/16 High Performance LS7 Rods.

That one 3/8 rod using the Dorman HPX Bolts was the one doing the 8,000 rpm. I was scared to try to puch it more and I never let it stay in gear past the finish line, becuase I didn't want to yank rod caps off.

I have done appx 640 - 650 hp using the fatory cast iron BBCrank in customer cars. Would be scared to try more. The factory steel crank is strong though. I have seen those do over 1,400 hp.

I guess we were lucky and I will take lucky over good any day of the week.

My good friend has been making a little over a 1000 with a 477 and a Scat cast crank. Been hitting it with 400 HP from an Edelbrock fogger. BUT something to consider is this is in a mud truck not a hard hooking drag car. Big difference to the load the bottom end see's, I think. The engine is a 'diamond in the rough' though. Most wouldnt have this kinda luck. :D

I had a 482 with stock rods and cast crank that made 630 on motor and 1300 with dual big shot plates. and this was with a set of closed chamber square port heads

sorry Ed thought it was 8800, but still 8000 on rods people tell you to keep to about 5800 and 500hp max.;)

I hit my 464 motor with 460HP thru a NOS plate setup. Car runs 5.50 at 130 1/8 mi at 3200lbs. Just had the crank Mag'd and looks good. Stock crank but Aluminum R&R rods and Venola pistons...soon to be Diamond pistons...

now i know why we have so many oil downs. just spend the extra few bucks
and get a good crank. a scat 4340 small blk crank is 629 dollars big is
700. whats your car worth when it spins in the oil and go's into the wall.

my car is a 67 camaro that weighs 3200 on true ten inch tires. went 520's on both kits. I have yet to see someone go that fast so heavy with that least of equipment with out tearing it up. that is one humping little motor that I have. Now that I bought a big motor I don't know what to do with the little one.

the rods are 7/16 rods and the crank is a cast 454 crank. I did go with venolia gp pistons this time but have always just used the plain ross ones

I guess that I am just young and dumb. Thats what the old guys tell me after I take their money with some junkyard parts. People going by what the book says gets me all the races in the world with that motor. People see the stock block factory heads and the rest of the cheap junk and the jump on me. Like you here over and over, its all in the tune up;)

I know what I'd do with that lil' motor. I'D KEEP IT!!! As a spare, if nothing else. Try as hard as you can, you'd be hard-pressed to duplicate that motor with the parts that you used and make that power reliably.

And I'm guessing a roller valvetrain? I can't possibly see a flat-tappet producing these sort of figures, but I guess anything's possible. Thanks for any info...

I really only run 1/8 of a mile and I think that saves me alot. I do have a roller valvetrain. The heads are the square port closed chamber ones. They have been ported. The one thing I did was play with alot of converters. I just had it freshened and switched to dual foggers. Still debuting on saleing it or keeping it.
