Hooker headers?

I thought i would start off by saying this is a nice site I just found it last night.

Anyone ever do any rework on headers? I have a set of 1-3/4" Super Comps that in the flange port area look awful. The port is supposed to be somewhat square I guess. They look more like they just had the hell beat out of the pipes just to make them fit in the flange to be welded.

I thought about welding the pipes on the outside of the flange and using a die grinder on the ports to open them up. As they are right know they don't even match up to a stock size Dart Iron Eagle exhaust port.

Any tips and ideas? Other than buying a set of $1000 headers.

I have been told that welding the outside might make the pipe fatigue in that area. I'm not saying it's a bad idea though. Bill Gilsbach moderates the chassis and suspension area of this site. Bill has built a ton of headers and he's a great fabricator. I would post this quetion to him over there.
