So our 97 f-150 puked its balancer, the rubber inster came apart.

My question is does the 4.6 take the same balancer? I know both motors are internally balanced and if the pulley size is the same could I buy an upgraded 4.6 balancer and put it on our 5.4 2v motor? I dont want to put another junk factory style rubber insert balancer on for it to come apart in another 100k, and they are the same price. Oh and I cant find anything listed for a 5.4 balancer.

Thanks.

There are 6 rib and 8 rib balancers for the 5.4's. I can't speak for swapping OEM balancers, but I know that Innovators West offers one part number that covers both the 4.6 motors as well as the 5.4's.

his f-150 should be a 8 rib, though.the 4.6 I don't believe had a 8 rib it should have been a 6 rib. that is the difference.as long as it is a 8 rib and the same overall diameter it will not matter

Yep....as long as the # of ribs are the same...you are good to go.

Jim, aren't the 4.6's 6 rib and the 5.4's are 8 rib? -Mark
