Did a search and didn't really find anything
has anyone ever ran one in a stock 2nd gen front end?
and maybe this is a dumb question but would it help with a stock block, like keeping it from twisting funny or something??
thanks

I think a motor plate and mid plate support the block better than mounting in the factory location. I have no proof but I'g guessing it's a better mount. You might have to by a universal motor and mid plate and cut them to fit? Make sure you run a motor plate, with a mid plate, and some kind of strut to keep the motor from moving front to back in the vehicle.

Thats what people say about the stock location mounts. I believe there was a picture of a motor that cracked that area on the internet I seen sometime back. Anyway, I use a stock front frame and have tabs that hold the motor plate in. The front motor plate tabs come rather close to the control arm bolt but it isn't a problem. I had the motor set back as far as possible. The mid plate is almost inline with the firewall..

Also helps take the stress off of the cyl walls that stock/solid motor mounts add under power. Guy I know has a motor and midplate in a 2nd gen with stock front frame and suspention.

With his we sunk it between the frame rails and made tabs come off the side of the stock frame with 3 bolts on each side. we even moved the engine back 1 1/2 inches, it is no where near the control arms did the mid plate the same way. hope this helps

oh sweet.
so moving the engine back that far would you need to change tranny mounts and a different length drive shaft? i'm guessing you would.
so like monson said should i put like a strut thing to keep it form going back and forth?

Yes, Yes, And for sure Yes
We fabed a new cross member for the trans and the headers were custom made for the car by lemons headers for moving the motor back. we have a adjustable engine limiter(strut) to stop the motors front to back movement.

cool. well i won't worry about moving it back then.
on the strut, could i just build a solid mount? don't want to mess with adjusting it.

we just use 2 hyme joints with tube in the middle and a couple of locking nuts, turn it one way it gets longer turn it the other it gets shorter, but yea a solid one will work to. No adjusting really just for ease of installation thats all.

alright i need to order a motor and mid plate and strut today or tomorrow.
i'm looking at getting the comp eng plates part # in jegs 247-4003 and 247-4031. is this the best motor plate for me? like fitting wise? or should i buy the big one part# 247-4004 to cut and fit better?
thanks

I dont recall how far you can move that back B4 you run into the firewall, but some series have a limit on how far back you can move the motor.

yeah. i wanted to run PSCA but my car is back halved with big tires. so that automatically put me in a fast class that i will probably never be competetive in. then i went and bought a B&J tranny which wouldn't be legal for a class besides the fastest i bet. and my engine wouldn't compare to those guys so the car is just going to be a bracket/street racer i guess. i want to build a fox body to compete in PSCA with a sbc in it. so this is a trail and error car i guess ha ha ha. i'll build the fox just for a certain class

Right on Dave, I TOTALY understand, I dont have the pockets for it. I am gonna try to keep mine legal for Real street, but I would guess I wont make but one or two races/year (if that). I race down here @ Barona & mostly just grudge race/T&T.

so i got my motor and mid plates. mocked up a cardboard piece for the motor plate. (i got the comp eng. 4003 plate) the passenger side looks good. it'll mount to problem. the driver side is hitting the steering already. and between the steering and the a arms there is very little room to work with. i'm affraid the if i trim the plate and make a skinny mount to the chassis it won't be strong enough.
what do you guys think i should do?
oh and how is the best way to know where exactly to put them? its still got the motor mounts and tranny mount in it. so i figured that where i would want the plate to be. the mid plate is going to be a lot more tricky i think. mght just finish the front and then take engine and trans out and put a bare block in there to mock up stuff. is this the easiest way?
thanks a lot for your help!!!
