what is the min. valve to piston clearance an engine should have?:smt102

I like to keep .100 or more on both valves. I have seen some titanium valve motors run close to .050. I would never do that.
If you have big heavy stainless valves give them some room.

The safe answer is .080 intake and .100 exhaust.
I have run .020 intake and .070 exhaust without issue.
In the end you need to make the call.

Chris, does the .020 and .070 you mention include the lash in the system? In other words, if the valvetrain was set at zero lash and light checking springs, you'd be in the area of zero and .050 piston to valve?
