there used to be a product called "pyro-putty" that would live in exhaust ports in a racing environment...not sure about the street though.
Joe Mondello sells all manner of epoxies and other supplies for porters.

From what I have heard it needs to be coated with silicone and does not last a whole long time. I know a super stock record holder that has cast iron pieces molded the shape he needs and tack welds them in.

I would consider filling the port with brazing rod... Are we talking iron heads?

coated with silicone?? then what, rinsed in prop-wash? I think someone was pulling your chain. Silicone has about as good a chance living in exhaust heat as a snowball in...

When I worked at Dart, Maskin told me brazing was the only way with an iron head.

look for "resbond 2300°.
"excellent fill for heat risers in heads"
no silly-cone coatings required :)

I just repaired a BBC Cylinder head last weekend. It had a pinhole in it.I was able to get at it from the water jacket plug side.I removed the plug and hit it with .023 mig wire.I then coated the back of the port with JB Weld.Apparently the porting made the wall thin and throught the years it rusted from the inside.I once heard a Stocker racer say something about using silicone (RTV High Temp Red).He told me that It would seal header gasket leaks.I did use it and after removing the header the RTV that oozed in to the port was not burnt at all. Maybe for somthing that small it may work.I was actually thinking about putting a small coat of it just for insurance.I am going to fire it up next weekend .I will let you know if it hold?!AND for how long?
