Trying to get a second opinion on pushrods. Been dealing with Manton. They say I MUST have 7/16" X .168 wall, nothing less. These are $400 a set, don't want to be a cheap ass, but if I do'nt need something that severe I would like to know.

Motor is as follows: 565 BBC 14.8 comp., two foggers around 550-600 total. Spring pressure is 400 seat and just over 1000 open.

They say the extreme cylinder pressure calls for that particular pushrod.

Have been running 3/8" .080 wall in the past, and was told I should not even crank the motor with that pushrod.

Any suggestions?

I had 3/8 .080 with 400 and 1000,only tweaked 1 after 80 or so passes.Now I have Smiths Bros. 3/8 .120 9.100 and 9.900 long no problem 10.2 deck dart360 head 15.1:1, 2 systems about 780hp worth of squeeze. Smiths Bros should be right around $200.

They are correct. People can get away with smaller thinner pushrods but they are throwing away HP.

I would use the pushrod they recommended.....or bigger ones.

Use Manton's advice. Just because your motors run with less pushrod, doesn't mean they are deflecting.

Thanks for all the advice guys, Mantons it will be, everything they said made sense, just wanted a couple of other opinions.

On another note, you guys think my stock stamped steel rockers will be fine, or should I move up to a nice roller tip rocker?

If your going to run the stock stamped steel rockers, you better go to tapered 9/16" pushrods....

With those spring pressures you better forget the stock stamped steel rocker arm. The best high performance wide slot stamped steel rocker is also just good to .640 lift.

I suggest to get one of the shaft rocker systems from T&D, Jesel, Crane, CRower, Comp Cams (T&D) etc. At the very least use a good big strong needle bearing rocker like Crane Gold, Comp Cams (Harland Sharp) Harland Sharp, Isky, Scorpion, Crower, Lunatti (Crane) etc. with a good stud girdle to fit. I am now doing a BB Ford on a budget using Harland Sharp with stud girdle with what will likely be 380 to 400 seat pressure and 1,000 open.

Sorry if i was misleading Ed. The rocker arm thing was a joke. It already has jesels on it.
