Hi all,

A couple of years back, a friend bought a Remington 700 "heavy barrel" .308 bolt action rifle for target shooting. He loves it. He mentioned it would probably be too heavy to haul through the forest for deer hunting, but he uses it strictly at the range.

If I wanted to buy one, strictly for distance range shooting, which options should I consider? I looked at the Remington website, and they have quite a few variations- stocks, barrels, sights, finishes, barrel bedding?, and a few others. I'm not sure which is important.

The model 700 is a nice gun. I bought my father a 308 Varmit synthetic with the fluted stainless heavy barrel. The gun groups very good with hand loads.

I would just get a VS or PSS .308. These have the stock that has in intergral bedding block. I'll take some pictures tonight to give you a better ideal.
