I just bought the MSD one, when i called MSD and asked them, they told me i will still have to use the timing retard to start the car due to high cylinder pressure and a locked distributor. i have heard this from several racers as well.

This is one area you don't want to skimp on,its very costly, broken flywheels, starter drives, etc.Make sure you have a good battery/batterys

I like the big Tilton starter, I have broken a Powermaster starter, The drive off of the motor sheared off in a 10-1 comp. ultra street 540.

I use CSR, but at 13:1 it will kick back if the battery isn't the greatest.

I own a CSR platnum series 300.00 starter on my big inch high CR motor,it works good.
I also run which is on my motor as we speak an ebay 88.00 copycat that works just as good - there are a few internal differences but are they worth 300 bucks ?

Never had a problem with my CSR Platinum. Even on the old 13.5:1 combo w/o using a start retard. I do have dual Optima batteries though too.
