anbody ever switch to a new motor with 100 more horspower and only gain a lil over 2 tenths in the 1/8 mile ? i know i am bummed the hell out about this.
to be more specific, my old lil 355 chevy made right at 500 hp and with a th350 ran around a 7.14 in the 1/8. built a new motor lil 383 chevy, made 614, went to a glide, converter is a lil tight only going 4300 compared to 5200 with the old combo and now ran a 6.95 last night first time out. kinda thinkin im gettin the raw end of a deal somewhere and looking for any ideas as to where this power is going. i figured with that tight converter it should have run around a high 6.70 and was hoping to get into the 5s on 200 or 250 shot. any advice or ideas are gladly welcomed cause im sure im missing something and jumping ahead of the gun here

I think once you mess with the fuel pressure and timing you will get the car into the .70's for sure. I don't know about going 5's on a 250shot. We go 6.40's in the 1/8 on the motor and then go 5.70's on a 360hp Nitrous unit. Our car weighs #3200 and spins the whole way down the track on out little tire.
That might be another possibility, Maybe the car is spinning a little more than it used to. What was the old MPH and what is the new MPH

I suspect the converter and glide don't match as well n/a as the converter and th350 did. Then again, on nitrous, the glide and converter may work better for ya.

So, The car picked up 7mph. Which is not bad considering you also switched to a Glide. I think with a Glide and the old motor you would see the same thing as far as the car having slower 60 foot times.

Couple of other questions. What kinda car is it. What kind of suspension are you running and what rear end gear ratio do you have? What tire do you run?

70 nova, stock suspension with cal tracs, 3200 lbs, 275/60 m/t drag radials. 4.10 gear.
qa1 r series coil overs on the front. gonna switch to a split mono and new shocks in a few weeks hopefully

I would say that depending on the convertor the cam and suspension a 5.70 on 250 is not out of the question. One of mine goes 6.80's at 102 on motor and on 250 goes 5.70's and picks up even more on 325...lol

also switchin to a 26/8.5 m/t slick as per the class rules and the record on those tires is a 5.70 something. what type of mph did it run with that 250 shot ? car just doesnt 60 ft for nothin 1.58, then on out it pulls like hell. damn near ready to go back to a 3 speed auto

I would personally throw the 3 speed back in the car. I am almost 100% sure that you will see the car pick up with it.

well i got the nitrous and the nitrous timer wired up this weekend, got my big shot plate jetted for a 150 hp, hope it will work that low. i got to send my odessy battery back to jegs, its been givin me a fit the past couple weeks. hoping to get my new battery and a new set of slicks by this weekend, hopefully i can go make a couple shots and see what this over priced junker will run

2 tenths in the 8th is about 4 tenths in the quarter = approx 100HP
IE" I ran 10.50s on motor A switched to motor B and ran 10.10
