Hutch - please help:
'71 Camaro, 3,470 lbs w drv, small tire, pump gas 434 sb street car, 256/264 @ .050, shift na about 6,500, might pull to 7,000 or so, but runs just as well shifting at 6,500/6,600. Runs mid 10's on hp @ 126 mph. On a 225 big shot plate ran 9.61 @ only 137, ran 6.0 @ 112 in the 1/8th. 60' time was a 1.33 with the rear wheels, foot braking. The 1/8th time is much better than the 1/4 - due to blowing through the converter we think. Was at 7,000 rpm @ 1,000' - with a 28.5" slick, so that indicates a lot of slippage. It also seems to have a hard time pulling past 7,000. Trapped 137.6 @ around 7,300 rpm. Flash stalls 4,400 on hp, 5,600-5,800 on a 225 hit.

Want to go to a 300-350 shot. Converter is on it's way back to its' maker right now - how tight should it be???????????? I told them 4,200 flash on the 225 hit - does this sound logical, this is about 1,500 rpm tighter.

Just doing a gut check - any opinions / help are greatly appreciated?

Before we get too far, what rear gear do you run and what is the trap rpm on the motor. Do you want a dedicated nitrous converter design which will kill the car when trying to run on HP? What trans are you running and what is the diameter of the converter you are using.

Talk to you soon ,Hutch

9" converter, trap rpm on the mtr is about 6,300/6,400 rpm, 3.89 gear, 400 turbo, I am not concerned about loosing some on the mtr, just nitrous performance.

Thanks!!!

The slower it is on HP the faster it will be on the hose..I think you need a tight 10in,,I had a 3800 10in PTC in my 3400lb 3rd gen and it went 11.20@ 124 on hp and 9.73@ 145 on a 300hit,Had more in it but I sold it before I had the chassis figured out..Good Luck....

Looks like the converter is not pulling the motor down too well on the nitrous. If you can get the stall down around the 4000 stall range it should work great. A flash of around 5600 does not sound too bad but if the motor won't rev it really sounds like there may be other problems. Valve springs, timing ,mixture etc.
Get the re-tuned converter in place and start over, the tighter converter will load the motor harder and may correct several problems.

Hope this helps ,Hutch

Heck yeah that helps!!! Thank You guys for taking the time to respond. It really revs okay, just does not seam pull hard / gain mph past a certain rpm point, sometimes it felt like nuetral would pull just as hard.

Thanks Again!!!!
