i was wondering if running an s-10 vacuum/air pump to pull vacuum on my crankcase would help any.. my friend runs one on his strictly strip camaro and it sounded like a good idea.. i also am considering this because i blow oil out of the passenger side breather.. its becoming a hassle to wipe off the wires, headers and heads every couple days..
i would use the pump and an oil/air seperator.. any suggestions or comments?? this car will see about 70/30 street/strip..

Sounds like you have a cylinder sealing issue to deal with if its a N/A motor.

damn it.. that just sucks.. something i didnt want to hear.. its a N/A motor
my friend that runs the pump says his breather used to pop off during some runs.. and he is N/A..
so what could be wrong?? how can/do i fix this problem?

Are you running a PCV or just breathers?

breather on the passenger side and a hose from the drivers side cover to the back of the carb..

Do you have a baffle before the breather?........nevermind, stupid question.

That pump should take care of your problems.

A leak down test will tell you where the preasure is coming from, there is no way a sealed motor will blow the amount of oil out you are talking about. The Vac pump is a poor fix and will cost more than fixing it right. Get that hose off your carb, you are just sucking oil in the intake making it all worse.

so what could be causing this positive crankcase pressure??
the oil only seems to come out the passenger side.. i took off the hose on the drivers side once and it was just kinda still.. no pressure, no vacuum.. weird.. but that was a little while ago.. not sure if thats still the same..
EDIT: its not a whole lot of oil but its noticeable.. when the engine is warm, you can see some smoke coming out of the breather.. not bad smoke, just hot oil kinda smoke..

That would be bad smoke, at a idle any is a lot. best way is to take a leak check with air, put controled air through the plug hole the air will come out of the crankcase ( dip stick, valve cover ) on the hole that has pressure loss you will see it on the gauge too, you might try a comp test dry first the oiled and see which one comes up, take the vac hose off and see if it comes out both covers it should

oh man.. i'll do it when i get home for summer.. the dad did enough work already..
but i'm still looking into adding the vac pump.. i've heard it'll help run cooler and free up some ponies.. true? then i can get rid of my flex-a-lite and fan shroud..

It depends on your ring package how much they help keep it at 7-8 inches and you wont kill the wrist pins.

update on the pushing oil problem.. its a cracked block.. father did a compression test and 7 of the cylinders were at 160psi and the #3 was at 110.. so we are getting 2 new blocks, one for our current motor and another to rebuild a 383 from our first time around, to keep as a spare.. and hopefully can get this bitch in the 11's where it belongs..
