Households headed by illegal aliens imposed more than $26.3 billion in costs on the federal government in 2002 and paid only $16 billion in taxes, creating a net fiscal deficit of almost $10.4 billion, or $2,700 per illegal household.

Among the largest costs are Medicaid ($2.5 billion); treatment for the uninsured ($2.2 billion); food assistance programs such as food stamps, WIC, and free school lunches ($1.9 billion); the federal prison and court systems ($1.6 billion); and federal aid to schools ($1.4 billion).

So, what it looks like to me is that the U.S. taxpayers are assisting (subsudizing) the corporations that hire these illegals by off-setting some of their costs. Anytime someone pisses and moans about "why should the tax payers pick up the tab for health care?", I'm gonna point out this article. We are already paying for public health care, only it's not for our citizens. If "free" health care is OK for illegals in this country, how come it's not OK for the rest of us?

Here is my take on this illegal problem. There was a time when we ate all the fruits and vegitables we wanted and there was no illegal problem back then. There was a time when the resturants didn't hire illegals to be the cooks or busboys. There was a time when peple didn't have to hire illegals to do manual labor. Right now, the illegals are costing the U.S. taxpayers a hell of alot more than they help. The difference in labor costs between an illegal picking lettuce and some citizen making twice as much picking lettuce is about $0.10 per head of lettuce at the super market. And if I have to pay a little more for things to offset higher labor costs, well, that's the way it is.

I say that if someone broke the law to get into this country, that person needs to be punished, pay a stiff fine and be deported. If some of the money they have been sending home to Mexico or wherever has to be paid back to this government in the form of fines, so be it. And anyone that knowingly hires an illegal and pays him under the table should pay a super stiff fine and go to jail for a spell. We have 15 to 20 million illegals here and every one of them needs to be delt with in a legal manner. They have broken the law. No more of this political policy of "don't ask, don't tell". This is not a Republican problem or a Democrat problem, it's both of them acting together by doing NOTHING about it. I understand why they are doing nothing about it (to subsidize corporations that are also campaign contributors) but that won't fly anymore. We are citizens and we need to take back our country. I blame the polititions for this problem, 100%. I can't blame the illegals, they are just trying to improve their lives and the lives of their families, and who can blame them for that? But, as long as we continue to permit illegals this kind of freedom, it will only get worse.

Now, we should probably take another look at what it takes for people to come in here legally. Maybe the process needs to be addressed, I don't know. Maybe we need to bar the door for awhile, I don't know. I know that if the lifeboat becomes too crowded, it will sink. I think that any "guest worker program" is an unworkable solution. I am also not too pumped up with offering an education to non-citizens, including those that are here to study in colleges. Our colleges are overcrowded as it is right now. Let some student who is a citizen of India study in India. Let the citizens of India subsudize his education. This is all way out of hand and it's getting worse, and none of "our representatives" seem to want to discuss it.

I will not vote for ANYBODY running for president in 2008 unless they state for the record that they will follow the law of the land when it comes to immagration and anyone that is caught here illegally will be fined and jailed until the fine is paid, and then will be deported back to where he or she came from.

And if we didn't have all the entitlement programs that we have how many illegals would be here doing this work?
