Im a handgun nut... Not much into rifles.. I wanted to know what people usually shoot for target ammo.. I have been using the Winchester and Magna rounds and they seem to be fine. I picked up 600 rounds of the Cabela's brand (in green plastic ammo box) and they actually seemed OK. Also where is the cheapest place to buy factory ammo at? I have been going to (shoot me) Walmart, Meijers and Cabela's to get it. I usually buy around 1000 or more rounds each time... This is for 9mm, 40 cal and a 45 cal.. Thanks

If you are going to buy factory reloads buy Winchester. Good quality stuff, won't jam the gun but will make it filthy.

Remember what I told you about that .22 conversion kit. If you are just shoooting to improve techniques, and sight alignment, man you can shoot a box of .22's for next to nothing.

There is no cheaper ammo than .22. You won't have the same recoil as a .45 but you will get in plenty of practice.

Carl is there any difference in accuracy between a 22 and say a 40 or 45? If it was converted on the same gun? I could care less about recoil.. that is well after the shot left the gun anyway.. I seen a box of 525 22's for something like $10.00 or something like that.. I just remember it was cheap!!

Wally World for practice ammo, hands down. Cant beat 14.88 for 100 rounds of WWB 9mm anywhere.

You can get close - before shipping - at Cheaper Than Dirt (www.cheaperthandirt.com). The S&B ammo is sopposed to be good quality and the price is definately right, but I dont think they beat Wal-Mart on anything "common" except .38 Special.

As for my defense ammo... I like Streichers Police Equipment (www.streichers.com). $20 for 50 rounds of Federal HST, when all is said and done (shipping, tax, etc) I got 100 rounds of HST for $53?

Zero difference. Now here is the Pro's and Cons of doing it.

Pro: cheap ammo, less recoil, saves money,

Con: Not what you will defend yourself with, weight is way different, will throw off muscle memory.

Mejiers had 9 mm 100 rounds for $12.88.. I bought all 14 boxes they had... My 40 and 45's come from Walmart which was $18.88 for 100 rounds of 40's and $24.99 for 100 rounds of 45.. These are all Winchester. Is there something online that has say 1000 rounds for less than the prices above per round (broke down into unit prices?)

Is it a good idea to just buy a 22 for practice? rather than a retro kit? I know the feel has a lot to do with the way I shoot.. But maybe they have compareable models of guns I have in 22's?

There is a weekly pub that sells at most book stores and supermarkets called hangun or shotgun news. I bet you can find someone in there that would reload for you for cheap. Might find someone local.

I can't think of the accurate name but I know it is either Shotgun or handgun.

Well let me say it now, I have never practiced what I preach when it comes to gun. I shot the .22 stuff once and never went back. I didn't like it, but it did save money, that was my only reason because I was a lot worse than you when I got heavy into it. I was a crack addict for shooting. If I didn't smell gun powder at least once during the day I was going insane.

It's Shotgun News. Most dealers in it are great to deal with.

If you are going to shoot alot then it's better to reload. You can get started with a good system for under $300 then all you have to do is buy your bullets in bulk, and the powder in 10# kegs. I order primers buy the 5000 lots as I do the bullets. Shotgun News is also a good place to find "once fired brass" by the pound.
I load 45's and 9mm.
Let me know if you want to get started reloading. I''l hook you up with some supply houses and a few tricks on sneaking up on the perfect accuracy load for your own hand gun.

I typically buy the reloads @ the range I shoot @. its $10 for a bag of 50 (or there about, which seems pretty close to what you can get it for @ WalMart. I will check the next time Im there to be sure. I only go about 1/year sometimes 3 or 4 times a year, depending on how busy I am. I think I am going to check Wal Mart the next time Im there.

I typically dont have much trouble with the re-loads I get @ the range until I get about 300 or 400 rounds through it & then I get a few that jam. If I know Im going to stay, I will do a quick clean up of the feed & it will shoot fine for another few hundred rounds.

My dad used to buy a lot out of the shotgun news B4 he retired (Marines), but he does not goto the range much any more so I think he is all stocked up. He gave me some old Ball ammo (from WWII seems like) & WOW was that stuff NASTY. it dirtied up my gun & was a BEAR to clean out.

Try going to gun shows. You can usually buy cases dirt cheap. I picked up Fiocchi pistol ammo for a song once. If you can find the Sellier and Belloit, it's hard to beat bang for the buck. The brass can't be reloaded much, but it's pretty damn accurate. Thier rifle ammo is even better. A case of their .223 ammo won me a state title through a Bushmaster DCM rifle.
