should i chance spraying my .040 over 400 block?
3.75" stroke
it has splayed mains
6" steel rod
forged je's 13.5:1
i'm not looking to spray a lot. just like 100-150. i might have asked before but i don't think i got an answer. might have been another board though.
thanks

I know a few who are spraying .030 over stock 400 blocks with 300+ with no block broblems but every block is diff. Does it have block filler in it?

yes its half filled.
i only need it to last one season. after that i'm done with high compression and going with a bow tie block and a procharger. reason why i didn't start with a good block is had this one already done how i needed it for 1/4 price of a dart or bow tie. thats way during the next seson i can save up for the new block and blower etc...
i would spray a lot more if it was only .030 over. seen lots of em with 250+ shot but not a .040 over. doesn't the 400 block have thinner cylinder walls then say a 350 anyway? i would probably only shoot it to get a time slip and if i lost on the street to somebody (not too many fast cars around here)

We have a .030 over no filled we are hitting with 225 with no filler. The problem with nitrous is you never know how much is to much untill you cross that line. I have seen .030 over 400's crack on N/A motors. I think it will hold on a 100-150 hp no problem but thats me I'll put 250 shot to a cast crank with out flinching

I have a stock block 400 sbc that is .030 over with no filler 14 to 1 and I've hit it with 225 and 275 with no issues so far and it's only a 2 bolt. last year we hit it with 210 250 for half the season When I pulled it apart last winter for a freshing up it looked fine. you said your block had splayed caps and it was filled I wouldn't be worried about hitting it with 300+

Back in the day Stacey Hall ran a 421" with a factory block and he ran 6.90's with it in MatchRace/Top Sportsman trim.
Fill and pill it son, just stay away from detonation.

Tom hit the key word..... "DETONATION"
If you keep it away from detonation it will be fine..... But ring it once or twice hard and it will split right at the under cuts along the side of the cylinder walls on the water jacket side....... where the cylinder head bolts go in...... I won't even tell you how thin they get there.... If you don't know it won't hurt you!!!! L.O.L.
