View Full Version : carb/nos
I am thinking about doing an lsx build on my ss and a I am trying to figure out how to manage my igmition. I am doing a carb set up with two stages of nos. I am trying to figure out how I am going to pull the timing out without the ecu and no msd retard. i am thinking of putting a dist. in it and trying to run an ignition box where i can pull timing. Any help would be appreciated.

Some have run front mounted belt driven distributors. Don't think there are any provisions for a conventional distributor. That would get you what you're looking for but it's obviously not the most budget-friendly device.

MSD makes an LSx ignition box that controls the factory coils and lets you program the ignition curve and it also has a programmable 2 stage rev limiter and ignition retards for nitrous. It is about $300 from MSD. I am going to be putting one on a carbed LSx that is going in my 70 Firebird.
The only inputs it needs are from the factory crank and cam sensors.

GM Performance Parts makes the front drive distributor conversion simple.
These GM Performance Parts LS1 front drive distributor cover conversion kits are designed for LS1 applications using a 4-barrel carburetor and a distributor. They include a cast aluminum timing chain cover and a camshaft gear that attaches to the front of the timing chain for the front drive conversion. The GM Performance Parts LS1 front drive distributor cover conversion kits can also complete the switch from fuel injection to a carburetor and normal distributor.
If memory serves me, you actually use a Ford 302 distributor with this setup.

I am running a similar set-up but with the 4 barrel style throttle body. I pull the timing via the computer by using a resistor and relay wired into my IAC that throws the computer to a certain temp (the resistor) and I have the computer set up to pull "x" amount of timing at that temp only. The relay is wired to come on when I arm the NOS
