I have heard different opinions on my new combination and would like to get some feedback from the experts on what to expect HP wise. It is a 372c.i SBC. 4.125x3.48, 6.0 steel rod, JE 13cc dome piston .010 deck height 13.7: CR , Hellfire rings gapped at .025, .017 and .014 oil. Bowtie intake fully ported with a 1" spacer attached and ported to plenum opening, Pro Systems 950HP carb with additional 1" spacer. NOS pro race fogger with .028 jets. Here are the flow numbers for the heads w/o exh pipe:

How much hp am I giving up by having the piston .010 in the hole???

On a 4.125 bore you are only giving up 2.1cc's at .010" down. I am not sure you could even measure that hp wise. But it might give up some in the detonation resistance dept... Again not sure if i would even give it a second thought....

Wait and see what Chris has to say about it... I am not a big nitrous guy....

thanks Keith....appreciate the info...some of my friends have been kind of down on the combo. They like the 383 combo better than the short stoke big bore ones. But the car shouldnt be more than 3100-3200 with me in it so I think it will work

Who did the head work? This is a low port head? That's a pretty fat intake curve. Not saying it's not something that can be done, but a low port 23 degree head that averages 295 from .400 up is a pretty good piece.

Henry Boyko did the heads and intake

Yes it is a STD runner 23 degree head. Opening is slightly larger than a felpro 1207

Should run good for you. Depending on your goals, you might consider down the road getting the valve lift up some.... if you have the opportunity.

Chris,
Can you reccommend a place to take the rotating assembly for balancing.

Chris: The Canfield 220 head is basically a carbon copy of the last 23* head used in NASCAR. They work awesome. In the right hands, airflow is plentiful. Only downside, they REQUIRE shaft rockers. The off-set stud deal is a real dud.

Actually the intake side looks a tad low CFM wise. The exhaust w/a pipe would go 235'ish and that is where it needs to be.

When I do camshafts for those heads, typically they do not like tight LSA's AT ALL. Ecspecially is NOS is in your future. That is 2 steps not in the right direction.

HP.......Hmmm.......As Chris knows I hate those questions. At 3200lbs, with the ENTIRE COMBINATION set up for N/A, you have enough stuff to run 10.10's at about 132. However much power that is. In NOS trim, if you run it N/A, it'll make you not very happy. Mid to low 11's I'd guess.

Good Luck.

Jay,

Can I give you a call about possibly getting the correct camshaft for this combination. I would like to make the most of it before I put it together. I have a lot of time and $$$ in it so I want to do it right. Thanks.

Absolutely.

Today is Sunday and I am just answering E-Mails and PM's until the family gets up. I try very hard not to work on Sundays. Tomorrow, Monday, feel free to call me at 1.734.730.2574. If you get V/M, just leave a message. Lord only knows what I'll be getting into!

Thanks.

Chris,

Is it still common practice to paint the lifter valley of the engine? Have been out of the loop for a few years and am just getting back into this. If so, is there a special paint to use? What type of sealer is recommended for the freeze plugs? Using brass. Thanks.

It doesn't hurt to use Glyptol paint in the valley. I like to polish the valley with a grinder and a tootsie roll. It's never a bad thing to aid in oil return especially if the engine is not oil restricted up top.

Went to the local auto part store to get the glyptol paint and they looked at me like I was speaking a foreign language. Anybody know where to get Glyptol paint for the lifter valley? I am in Oakland county. Thanks

Eastwood co. for Glyptol paint.

I really don't trust painting the inside of the engine though....I like the idea of polishing like Chris does, if for nothing else than avoiding any sand deposits trapped by casting flash from getting around inside the engine

I have a very similar combination with my 377 I have a dart head with the offset stud location . there is a company out there called yellow terra who makes a shaft rocker system for this it requiers the use of offset lifters as well i beleive they only come with a 1.55 ratio i hope you dont mind a little extra lift
