I have a 04 chev pk-up with a 5.3 , the motor is stock with some programing. I would like to get some more power out of it 75-100hp would be nice. I have been looking at prochargers, and sts turbos but dont know if I want to spend the $$$. I know these setups would do what I want but I was woundering if anyone has had any luck with a cam change, headers-exhast, or maybe a head swap.

Just like any LSX based motor it will be responsive to a cam change, heads and exhaust. Those are all pretty easy. If you tow with the truck, I wouldn't suggest putting a turbo on it. The heat that you put into it under load will not be good for it. In that case a ProCharger would be good. Otherwise, a single turbo setup is absolutely a blast in the truck.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.
I do pull a trailer once or twice a month so maybe a turbo wouldnt be the best. Do you think that with a head/cam change it would be possable to get a 75-100hp increase and still be able to keep the torque in a usable enough range to pull a trailer with? Also who's parts have you had the best luck with?
Thanks agian.

Depending on what you want out of it. Heads, cam and headers will definitely get you pretty close to that. So would putting on an exhaust, ProCharger, etc. I think the ProCharger would definitely get you there too. It would be quieter than a heads and cam setup. You'll potentially need to look at a converter in either event as well.

I raced a guy that had a flairsided 5.3 truck and all he had was a cam, spray (100), and tires and it went 11.8. Impressed the hec out of me. -Mark
