View Full Version : Removing paint without rustrpoofing…

I figured that I’d roll the fender lips on the car while I was at fixing the quarters… just in case the paint cracked.

Heated the paint up with a heat gun, tucked things up nicely using one of those eastwood type tools, and as the paint cooled, sure enough, it cracked… Picking off the loose, flaking paint I’m surprised to see that the factory rust proofing (e-coat?) under the paint is absolutely perfect.

That being the case, I’m thinking, can I get the rest the paint, what didn’t crack off, off and evened out so I can paint over it without damaging the factory rust proofing (an especially nice thing to have around the fender openings).

Any ideas?

Mark I would think that you can feather things out,and with some primer and tlc you should be able to make it happen, make sure you have all of your (body work)done before you try to blend things,no reason to do it twice. Keith McCoy's Auto creations.
