Does anyone have decent instructions for installing a rack in a G Body?? I saw the TRZ website, but was looking for other options. I see they are using a -2" flaming river rack.

But before that....Are they worth installing? How much weight savings over a s-10 manual box? Bump Steer?/ Steering ratio?

I welded the brackets provided by TRZ to the frame to mount the rack. I went through the frame/crossmember with the steering shaft.

Weight savings over the Manual s-10 box was around 28#, no bumpsteer issues. I used the spacer kit they provided and took 1 inch of travel out..no bumpsteer. Ratio is worse than the manual s-10 box, don't plan on making any sharp turns.

How much of pain in the ass was it to do?? Worth the effort? 28# is alot over the front wheels....

Could you get the rack higher without hitting the damper?

I was thinking about cutting part of the K frame out, plate and tube it to run a bigger pan, and an engine diaper.

In addition to the TRZ R&P kit, Quartertech shows one as well.

Looks like I'm gonna have to go to a R&P as well as the notched crossmember to fit a diaper in 2008. Just no way to fit one right now between the oil pan almost touching the frame and the centerlink being just as close.

It wasn't bad. My engine was in the machine shop when I did the install so I was afraid to get the rack too high. I also have the oil return from the turbo on that side of the oil pan. If I got the rack high enough to run the steering shaft over the frame I was worried it would hit either the engine or the return. I mounted it low enough to run the shaft through the frame without getting it so low I didn't have enough bumpsteer adjustment. Worked out nicely.

Hardest part is getting it positioned so the steering shaft doesn't hit anything. Once you figure out the location and steering shaft it goes pretty quickly.

I run a radial class with an iron block and turbo so nose weight is where I'm trying to get the weight off. I also thought about cutting the frame out and tubing it. For the 8# difference I decided not to do it but if I can't get a diaper on it next year I'll have no choice.

What do you think the total weight savings is over the stock steering stuff?

As I recall, the total weight loss over manual steering box was around 19-20 lbs.

I changed everything under mine, to a TRZ uppers and lowers, easy 7 degree caster also WITH a Camaro Ball joints in them, this let me use the wilwood race brakes for a Camaro and Camaro spindle, (BIG weight drop here), and TZR steering arm a TRZ Rack in total it lost over 100 LBS in total well worth it.
The second picture is not mine but what mine looks like now
