I'm trying to gauge interest in a new heads up class for Fun Ford Weekend. Naturally.....this is for Ford guys only. I wanted to add a class that was very simple and could be run by people who can't afford an $85,000 Sonny Leonard engine or a Steve Petty twin turbo engine. Something easy to tech with very few limitations. Class would be somewhere around 8.00-8.40 in the ET range.
Here is what I had in mind........
Engine:
Small blocks limited to 430" at a weight of 2900 lbs.
Big blocks limited to 560" at a weight of 3200 lbs.
Small blocks limited to stock valve angle heads only. (No Pro Kings, etc). No canted valve heads allowed.
Big blocks limted to a maximum of the A460 head or equivelant.
Cast intake with one four barrel carburetor.
Wet sump oiling system only.
Power Adder:
Single stage nitrous system only. Plate system allowed with no penalty. Fogger system allowed with a 50 lb. penalty.
Transmission:
Powerglide only. No lock-up style glide allowed.
Rear Suspension:
Stock style suspension only. No "Wolfe-style" torque arms allowed. Anti-roll bars allowed. Leaf spring cars allowed to use housing floaters and any bolt on traction device (slapper bar, Cal-Trac, etc).
Tire Size:
29.5 x 10.5 ONLY!!! That goofball Hoosier is not allowed either.
That's about it. I'm trying to see if there are enough cars out there to put together a class proposal. We are looking at running a one race deal at the Fun Ford Weekend Richmond, Virginia event. Payout is up in the air right now but we are looking at somewhere between $1000 and $2000 to win. Looking at paying down to the semi's right now unless there are enough cars to convince a sponsor to fork over a little more so we could pay down to the quarters.
If anyone is interested in running this event please contact me at wheelersd@yahoo.com and I will add you to the list. I'm also interested in hearing opinions on this type of class. I believe there is a good cross section of racers on this board so I can get good feedback.
Thanks!
