Wanting to cage my covertible.

If anyone has any experience with putting a 12pt cage in a 1990 Mustang Convertible, I need some info..

In order to put the rear bars in, do I have to remove the pump and motor for the top? I would really like to be able to keep the top functional, but I would even goes as far as making the top manual. I'll put the top up and down myself, I have no problem doing that. Of course, leaving it electric, would be great

I had a convertible when I was young with a cage and a working top.Just don't run the bars to the back of the car.Run em' though the back seat.

What's the legality issue? I plan on running high to mid 8's with it.
