View Full Version : 12" VS 14" coilovers

Is there any advantage to using a 14" coilover VS a 12" coilover. I have a stock rear frame rail ladder bar car. I can fit the 12" under the stock floor. I was wondering if cutting out the the floor and making new mounts was worth all the work. I'm putting in a chrome moly cage now, so now would be better than later.

What you are referring to is spring length not actual shock length or stroke.I like a longer shock for two reasons.A 7 in stroke shock allows the rear to droop further for easier tire removal(especially from a low car)Second a lighter spring can be used because of the slightly longer compression to ride height.Whether you you will see a difference in performance,I really doubt it. Here are some mounting guidelines that Strange would like you to follow.They should work for any quality shock.BTW......
