At what point does the tires need to be screwed to the rims? I noticed when I get home from the track the tire has moved a tad on the rim. They are small tires... 26x10's on a 3170lb (w/ driver) car. Car normally 60's in the mid 1.5 range. Nothing fancy. I'm just thinking I'm leaving some ET on the table in the first 60ft. Tire pressure is at 12psi hot. Thanks guys. -Mark

I started putting screws in my rims as soon as I put slicks on them, especially with a stick.

Thanks guys. I guess now I'll see if anybody does it locally. Is there a standard screw size? -Mark

Moroso sells rim screws and you don't need to have someone else do it.
I put 6 on each side of the rim. Just make sure when you put the screws in, that you put a dab of silicone on them, it helps seal it.

rick jones race cars sells a templete for doing it,the more the better.if you don't put enough screws in the tire will actually pull from the rime where the screws are not and could cause a lose of pressure.I took the Roy Hills chassis class and they say to place the screws straight out from center thru the lug pattern and then between those screws add more,so on a 5 lug wheel you need 10 per side.

That's funny, this guy says you don't need rims screws...and he claims to be all knowing.

I run 'em. Mid/low 1.50 60'. I agree...if it moves, you need them.

Wow Footbraker. Very impressive. Looking at those pics makes me rethink rims screws. Do you have any ballast in the rear? Could running to low of tire pressure enhance the rim spinning? Thanks. -Mark

A foot brake car will not hit the tires nearly as hard as a stick car.
He also claims to not need a line lock..

Obviously, he has never bent an axle with a stick car, nor has he had a slick go flat because the tire spun on the rim when it launched...

I had both of these happen and this was when it was a 12 second ride and 1.59 60ft's

60 foot times don't mean shit.. A car could run a 1.6 60ft and leave more violently than a 1.2 60 foot.

And for the record, footbrake..

This happened with a 3200 Mustang with a 5 speed, 488 gears and ran 11.30's with a factory headed 302. 1.31 60 ft with the rear tires.

If that big ass boat can go 1.29's, it should going faster than 10.11

Yep. Kinda similiar drivetrain setup that I have. 3.37 first gear w/ 4.56's out back and 3170 raceweight. Launch rpm is between 6600-7100 pending track prep. I have an event to go to tomorrow so when I get back I'll look into picking up a set or screws. Thanks guys. -Mark

You probably dont need a helmet either unless you crash of course. Big Ed I have enjoyed reading your posts, but I must say. We have tried it, and a 2800 lb door car that run 5.20's without the NOS needed them, after nearly climbing the wall at Bowling green last fall we thought we had broke something under the car, we thought maybe water on the track. Maybe a tube in the housing broke. But upon looking the car over from top to bottom. We found it. It had slipped a tire on a wheel with screws. Funny it didnt do it all year, then out of the blue it happend. Nearly wrecked the car. It was our first go round with no screws and our last.

I agree not enough can cause tireshake and wad the tire. But none can cause a wreck. If its a drag slick and a car that hits the tire I would screw them to the wheels for sure.
