It's a shame that we don't here about this in the "mainstream" media.

Holy propoganda batman.

Talk about media bias.

Yet another article to mislead people about stem-cells.

Yes there are advancements made everyday with limited resources. The possibilities are endless if they had more to work with.

Sure it is from the "right", much the same as what you see written about embryonic is written from the "left". But the basic facts of the story are correct. Embryonics = 0 cures and 0 treatments and 0 human trials
Adult = 70+ cures and treatments and 1300+ human trials and counting
And they have proved you can develope all 3 "germ layers" from the stem cells harvested from amniotic fluid and have even done with adult stem cells although it is a longer process...

If we are going to invest federal monies in research it should be in the areas that show the most promise.

And if there was really that much promise in embryonics they wouldn't need federal funds....remember you are free to spend your own money all you want on embryonics.

Leave it up the the right wingers.. In 2007 federal funding on ALL research was cut by 20%.. In 2008 it will be cut another 20% ... We dont need cures.. we need bombs.. Phuckin right wing!!

The New York Times refused even to allow
people to read between the lines--they simply never reported the news (http://ogoodideas.com/red1/free-news.php) about Atala's work. When a reader complained to the "Public Editor," an online ombudsman, about the omission, the Times responded that its genetics reporter, Nicholas Wade, "looked at the Atala paper last week and deemed it a minor development."

The New York Tmes......about as useful as the National Inquirer!!!!!!!!

It's not the right wingers Monte, it's the right wing religious fanatics. If the Republicans are going to gain some ground here, they are going to have seperate themselves from these religious wackos inorder to attract the "middle grounders" out there.

Why does the government always have to supply the money?
Let the free market decide. I am amazed that people want more
government intervention. It should not be funded at all by the government.

Free market? What free market?

The one in which supply and demand are not regulated or are regulated with only minor restrictions. Your on your own finding one in this country.

But that's the point, isn't it? Everything is regulated these days. I'm not even allowed to have a 4-hour erection without being required to notify my doctor.

Masturbation is the only unregulated industry. But I hear you go blind.

Well, I do need to wear glasses these days. I wonder..................

As far as what the government should support or promote and what they should keep their hands off of, that is the question of all times. Everyone has their own ideas about it, from the libertarian view on one side and the socialist view on the other side. Like everything else, there is probably some middle ground here. Much of this stems from the Preamble to our Constitution and how it is interpreted.

PREAMBLE -
We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

The phrase, "promote the general welfare" has always been open to interpretation.

Here we are trying to promote freedom in far off places around the world and edge closer to socialism everyday. How ironic.

Here is the problem. The people with the money do not want research in cures. They want them in band-aids.. Kinda like trying to get funding from an oil company to figure out a way to make water burn as a fuel.. Aint gonna happen.. and the pharmaceutical companies aint gonna do it either. The return on investment isnt worth it.. That is why research needs the government to fund cures...

This is the type of government intervention that creates the thing people complain about the most. Big business and the government in cahoots. Tell me who will get the recipe for the cure after its found? A large pharmaceutical company thats who.
How many bitch about Haliburton making money in the Iraq war, but dont mind government taking care of big business as long as its something they believe in.

Big business and the government should not be in cahoots for any reasons. Religion and government should not be in cahoots for any reasons.
