With a full-size 88 (with a larger turbine wheel), you can expect low 8's. If the sun, earth, and moon are aligned, one might even flirt with the 7's.

My 402 sbc has been 8.2x at a lot higher weight with a 88. At 3200# I would think 7s should be attainable.

John, I went 8.18 with a 91 on my 347 back in 04-05 at 3350lbs and on BFG's. Pretty sure we could repeat those et's now with a strong 88mm. Definatly give Matt and Reed a call at Supernatural, they know their stuff when it comes to "class" spec turbos!!

I know of a local racer who has been 8.30's with a gt4788 on a 340ish inch motor. you should be able to do that the issue will be making the combo work right and running a hotside that can keep up with the CI and heads.

You might find out what a 396 ls1 with an 88 will run next year.

Piston swap, A2W set up and turbo vs. 450ci. bottom end

What is the optimum (sp) cubic inches for a 88mm turbo?

Jesse Lambert
09-04-2009, 09:56 AM
The key to success will be backpressure control with 400+ inches and a single 88mm.

We were actually gonna use my 427" with a single 88mm before we decided to go twins. Your just goin to have to monitor your back pressure.

ATVracer
09-04-2009, 10:19 AM
I could find a stock crank to stick in it (making it 370ci) or just stick with the 396?

How do you monitor backpressure? something you put in the downpipe I assume?

Jesse Lambert
09-04-2009, 10:24 AM
Run a pressure sensor in the hotside at the merge before the turbo. You don't want to go past a 2:1 ratio of backpressure to boost. Anything more than that and you might actually hurt performance.

Wayne I would keep the cubes @ 396. Trying to work on some options for our program, we need good reliable power for the 275 Class and are thinking of moving in the turbo direction. Thanks for the phone call today Jesse!

You won't even need nitrous. I've even seen <350 cube motors with 106s that work just fine.

Hey dude, I recently went 152.64 @ 4050LBS with my setup. PT88 on a 370. Its making great power.

If your still in the market I have a spare precision PT88 on the shelf 10 passes on it that I am looking to move.

$1050 on your doorstep. I can get you pictures and such if you would like.
