Went fishing in the clinton river this morning with hopes to catch a few cats and ended up with a few gills and a nice pike. 35 1/2 long and 9 pounds.

You are right it is a Muskie. But not a tiger, just a muskie in what is called the barred phase. It has pointed tail fins, so it's not a tiger it would have rounded tail fins if it was.

Yes I was just thinking the same thing on the fish being a musky. Been years since I have seen a pike. My pop started taking me musky fishing and we never went back to Canada where we fished pike when I was a young in! Pikes usually have white spots on them from what I remember. Now my question is was that a legal fish for where you were fishing? Vince

I was thinking the same thing, lol.
And the pike are brown with little white specks, <kinda oval in shape.
I loved going upstate NY to catch them..

I thought it was a muskie when it was pulled from the water but it had a total of 10 pores on the bottom of it lower jaw so i called it a n.pike. Its somtimes hard to determine a fish by its color or markings as they can be different do to there habitat. Now that i compare my pics to others ive seen on the net it sure looks like a muskie. If i knew it was in fact a muskie at the time it would have been put back as it is under legal limit and im not sure of there season dates. Well its to late to worry about it now it looks like i made a bad call on the spicies of the fish i caught.

According to the chart, Looks like a Barred Musky.
And if you don't tell no-one, we won't.. ;) Shit Happens..
And i saved the chart, i didn't know about the tail fin deal. See, ya learn something new every day..

Probably a illegal fish. I am not sure what the minimum size is for that area but usually 40" is the minimum. Maybe take the picture down and we can call it a pike. :)
