i am new to the bbc so i dont know if this is typical. bought a 84697 crank trigger dist. was installing the dist like any other and the base of the dist is 3/8" off the intake. its a 9.8 deck with the efi edelbrock intake. i also run the moroso billet pump. to me it looks like the manifold was machined too thin were the dist holddown is. what am i missing?

its either a tall deck distributor or it needs to still drop down onto the oil pump shaft...

i thought about the deck ht. is that the difference in a 9.8 to a 10.2? that is roughly 3/8 right there.

.
I would measure before doing anything. As said, you're either not in or the wrong dist.
I have a few before switching to dry sump, that just didn't want to fit in the damn slot!!
Almost as bad as a finicky converter sometimes??
Good luck.

Make sure the oil shaft didn't pop up on top of the pump. A few twists with a screwdriver will tell you for sure. Is this a new combo? What block? If you have the pump drive for a Merlin block in a non-Merlin it won't let the dist all the way down.
