Monty I hope you don't mind me putting this in here. I have been trying to find some information on how to build my own for several weeks and thought I would share the information.

I found a couple of great sites that have information on how to build your own flow bench or buy a fair priced one.

Mercdog
www.mercdog.com/motorsports/68_flowbench_kits.html

Performance Trends EZ flow
www.performancetrends.com

I also have the plans from a 1993 Hot Rod or Car Craft article about how to build your own flow bench for under $1000. If you can find used vacuum motors & a few other parts you should be able to do it for under $600.

There's a flowbench forum called flowbenchs.com or something... the address is saved at work so I don't know it here.

LOTS of information on building a bench.

I am waiting on another set of plans to come in so I can compare the two benches. Depending on how many motors I use I will have under $500 in mine. The more motors the more it costs. I am doing 95% of it myself.

You could spend $1200-$1500 if you didn't want to do anything besides put it together.

It should be capable of flowing over 1000cfm (depending on how many motors I install). Not bad for $500.

I do need to find a couple of head fixtures and radius guides. I might look into making them myself as well.

Stay tuned. Pics to follow.

Built the orifice disk and spacer ring tonight. Hopefully I will have most of the woodwork done by this weekend & have the cabinet part assembled. We will see how much time I have and how many people to help.

I found a couple of head fixtures but they aren't cheap. If I bought one with a few extra tubes I would have more in them then I would the flow bench. The radius guides are $50-$60 but I should be able to make them.

Bought all of the wood and have most of the bench cut out. I will take a few pictures and try to post them.

So far everything has been pretty easy. We will see what it takes to put everything together.

Instead of using the performance trends stuff I went with another company called Flow Performance. They sell a digital box for flow benches that is pretty cool. Instead of having to read manometers the computer and digital box do all of the work for me.

I posted a picture of my bench above and it should be running as soon as I get the 220 plug installed.

I built the bench with a few electric tools and a little time. The design changed a few times but should give me a lot of data once it is operational.

If you want simple flow bench plans go to www.mercdog.com and I believe they are $30. I listed a useful flow bench forum in one of my previous emails. That site is very helpful if you need information on a bench or just have a question about one.

I have around $1200 in my bench but if someone wanted to use manometers then they could get the price in the $600-$700 range.
