View Full Version : How much is this cam hurting me?

Jay, here is what I'm working with. I've got this cam in my car right now. It's a Howards solid roller,
Lift: .580"/.595" Duration @ .050": 242/250 Lobe Center: 106 Lopey idle, great oval track and heavy drag car cam

That's straight from their site. The only difference is that they ground mine with 108 lobe center. This cam is not what I chose for my combo it's just what I had. I have a monte carlo, true street car that gets driven, I race in local drag radial and true street headsup races. I built a carbed blowthrough turbo system for it myself. I have used a little nitrous to help cool things down and I've gone a best of 9.33@151mph, leaving soft. Here's my specs
weight- 3563-with me in it.
407c.i. sbc. Dart block, forged internals
Dart Iron eagle cylinder heads, out of the box 215cc, 72cc,
-36cc dish JE pistons, around 7:1 compression with these heads
Victor junior
CSU blowthrough carb
Majestic Turbo large frame 88mm turbo, flows enough air to support 1360hp.
Currently at 20psi, want to go higher.
5" downpipe
6500rpm shifts,
1.76 gear p/g trans,
PTC converter 4,500 flash
3.50 gear, 30" tall drag radials.

I'd like better heads with smaller chambers to get me some more compression. I believe that the heads along with the camshaft are holding me back big time. Most guys with this turbo at 20psi are 155mph or better cars. I had to use nitrous to get mine to 151mph. I've read for years your posts Jay and I just recently found out you did cylinder heads to. If I were to buy a set of standard 23 valvetrain heads and a custom cam from you how much would it help?

Thanks!
