My Pontiac Sunbird has been leaving hard, lifting the wheels about 2 feet of the ground, which is OK. But Saturday night it literally drug the bumper twice with the exact same setup! The only difference was 1lb less tire pressure and it was 15 degrees cooler than the week before. The car has been getting faster every pass by.002 to .004 as everything loosens up, which we expected, but thye damn Wheelstands are way out of the norm. I am going to put wheelie bars on it, but wanted to get everything worked in before hand.We are gonna raise the instant center a little more, is there anything else that may have caused this??It made for a good show but scared the hell outta my wife and the Announcer at the track!
Thanks Bruce

What kind of shocks are you running at each corner ?
Before making any bar adjustments, you can do one of two things:
-) tighten up the extension rates on both the fronts and rear shocks
-) hang 20-30 lbs on the nose of car

Coilovers on the rear with 125lb springs, stock front shocks.
But why the change from last week?

Well, you said the air was about 15* cooler. Cooler air will make more HP. And usually the track will get tighter.
Are you running double-adjustable shocks on the rear ?
If so, you need to tighten the extension up two or three clicks.
If you have single-adjustable shocks, I'd suggest leaving them alone and hang weight on the front of the car. You'd be surprised how many fast cars have weight hanging on the nose of their cars.

Your tire pressure was down 1 psi... thats alot of difference, bump
the pressure up so you get a bit more tire speed. Go up the 1 psi
if not more

limit the travel in the front end. made a big difference on my old camaro when it was doing that.

Wheel stands are from 1 thing... its the pinion climbing the ring gear
because the car is trying to dead hook. I use to think that if you spin
the tire it was a bad thing... not so, you need to control the amount
the tire spins(all fast cars spin the tires at a controlled rate)

shoot i would hang some weight on the front of it before i did anything, if its going faster each pass weight would probably help more than anything, weight normally doesnt slow you down to much, if any, heck ive put weight on the front of the car and its either ran the same number or faster with a whole lot softer launch

It's cool !!
Don't sweat it. Glad to have your two cents !!
Most racers don't like adding weight but as we know, sometimes it can be your friend.........

Go back to the original tire pressure and see if it stops. 1lb is a big change

The weather alone could have made it faster. The tire pressure would make it dead hook up. Increase tire pressure and hang some weight on the nose when it gets cold and does that would be a quick easy fix.
