View Full Version : Rim screws on backside only?

Hi guys, my radials have moved a tad and I'm curious if I can get away with only rim screwing the backside to keep that "oh it's not much" appearance on the outside, or if it's necessary to screw inner and outer?? With one side screwed, is it possible to only move one side, like rack the tire on the rim?
White dot used to be lined up with valve stem. This is passenger side tire..

Well.... you could do one side, but I would recommend doing both. I would say you probably aren't going to have a huge problem though since you are showing it moved just a little bit, and I am assuming that you have made a few runs. You aren't losing a lot!

I like the glue idea - never heard of it until today.............
If you use screws, install both sides AND in-line with each other.

Are they continuing to move or have they stopped? If you are running them on the street, also make sure you have the proper inflation. Low inflation on the street can have several negative side affects, along with the tire moving on the wheel.
If they have stopped, leave it alone, but I might suggest re-checking the balance. We do not recommend screws for the ET Street Radials. On our bias race tires, if screws are used, you must do both sides.

16psi at track, usually 20psi for street time, which is sees a fair amount of. Moved an inch or so 1st day at track, 6 passes, moved another inch or so 2nd track day, 2 passes. 1.58 60' in 3600lb car.
Let me correct my originl post... That was driver's side tire (left). The funny thing is that the passenger side hasn't budged. This same thing happened when I ran ET Streets before these radials. Planting left side harder than right?!?

If the tires are glued with Hi Tak. How is the dismount? Sometimes it's difficult enough breaking the bead on the soft sided tires, I would think that the Hi-Tak would make it more difficult. I have had my tires screwed on the back side for 8 years with no problems. Usually, the 60's are in the 1.37-1.48 area depending in the track and I have never seen the tread rack. Otherwise, I would have screwed both sides. I just like the 11 second car look.

Yes. Rotational forces at work thru the suspension.

The dismount is no different.............in fact I thought it was easier.........Hi Tack doesnt really glue the tire to the rim, it just creates a non slip surface between the rim/tire.
Make sure to coat both tire and rim.........

Due to the design, we do not like the way it attempts to secure the tire. I could bore you with details, but that sums it up.

I've only used it on the 10.5X 29.5's [non W]... works just as well..
