I have 28x10.50s on 8 inch rims . First how do you know when a slick has had it? Second with my 8 inch rim am I realy using all of the slick? I was thinking that i could go to a 30x9 and get better traction and make up for the narrower width of the tire with the taller tire. I have 4.88 or so gears and Im running a 600 foot track . Any thoughts on this or am I way off base and be going in the wrog direction?

David,

The 30x9's would be an intersting choice and likley work better. I would be careful though. The 30x9 may not fit a stock wheel well. They are quite a bit taller.

Your question related to tire life... generally watch the 60 ft. times and those results will help you make the call for new tires. Tires will normally decline in performance gradually and don't typically quit working from one run to another.

Thanks,
Carl

Thanks . The thing that makes me think they are going away is that I used them from last january 08 till july08 and then they set for 7 months . I was having a new motor built . The first time back to the track It made the best 60' its ever had 1.48 for six passes then went to 1.55 or worse every time sense. Looking at my tire when its on the lift it looks like just the out side is feathering but wearing more in the middle. Could it be that the burn out is getting the center and just the out side edges are hooking on take off making the side s feather?

No tubes air at 10.5to 15 psi 12 to 13 being best if you can call a 1.48 good

Thanks

Try 16-17 psi. That's quite a bit of power, weight and gear. I'd say you are smashing the shit out of the tire.

May be but I did try 15 and it was way wose.Have you seen the take off pic from a few weeks ago? From that pick it looks about right .It seems to be getting worse . It was probably never right but with wear on the tires it just made it that much worse. i was allso thinking of the 29.5x9x15 becouse my rim is only an 8 inch.
Heres the pic.

Can any one look at this picture and diagnose whats going on with my tires? At this poin in the picture Im spinning ,look at the black marks Im leaving on the edges of the tire. This was at 12.1 psi I tryed 13/14/15 just got worse. I allso ran them at 10.5 and it was scary.

Thanks

Being that I use radials I might be completely wrong, but I'd say the tire is folding up in the center and would work better with more air or possibly a suspension adjustment to not hit them as hard.

Have you tried to flip the tires (left to right)? That usually cleans off the feathering and the sixty foots come back.

Thanks David.

You'll be fine with the 29.5/9.0-15. That will help you gear as well. If you went with our 29.5", part #3056 (non "ST"), it uses the L8 compound which is slightly softer than the M5 you were using on the 28.0/10.5-15. As mentioned earlier, rotate the tires as often as you can. That will extend the life and reduce or eliminate the feathering you were seeing.

Going back over all the information you provided, I'd say you were good with 12 psi of air. I might suggest you go over your suspension before putting on the new tires. All too often I've seen something "get out of wack". Not saying that something happened, but it's something I would do.

Thanks again for your questions.
