Just a silly quqestion about valve springs, the flat wound dampener is there to control harmonics in the spring, How does it accomplish this, is it by compression like a normal spring or is it thru friction by rubbing on the inside of the outer. I'm just looking to reduce spring temps and fatigue thru friction reducing coatings, but don't want to loose the effectiveness of the dampener.

It is my experience that when you coat a spring, it'll take away some of the dampners affects. Everything that moves gives off a frequency. As you coat it you change its properties. Thus the dampners affects have changed.

The NASCAR guys are having pretty darn good success just running a fairly large spring oiler up top and nearly floodding the valve cover.

Good Luck Rick!
