I need some expert advice here with no flaming if possible. I see guys go out on the strip at the my local track with temp guns. Can somebody explain to me what they looking for and what should the difference be in the slick temp after a burnout and the temp of the track whatever it is at that time? I know the track gets hot at the tracks here in the south during daytime racing, so what should I be looking for with my new temp gun and at what temp would I want my slicks to be after the burnout? This is a big tire nitrous car that's using one heavy hp shot of nitrous off the line and all the way during the run for informational purposes

I believe the tire needs to be about 20 degrees hotter than the track.

I check the track temp as a tuning tool in predicting how well the track is going to hook up.
I've also checked tire temp on my friend's car this year. I'm mostly just collecting data on that thus far. I'll normally have him do more burnout in the colder weather and a much shorter one in the heat. I suspect the track conditions will determine how picky one needs to be with this. We've ran mid 1.3 60 ft's with both the track and tire temp around 110* (burnout error/issue) on a 28x10.5 tire. Don't go much faster with the tires quite a bit hotter. We haven't had the opportunity to test as much on cold track conditions yet.
I've also heard you normally want the tire temp to be around 10-20* above track temp.
My observations,
Brian

I've heard 30 deg above track temp. What happens when the track temp is 120-140 deg? I just roast the hell out of them on every burnout.
