There was really great weather last weekend in Bradenton Florida. It was sunny and cool which made for some pretty fast runs and a good weekend overall. If you would like to see images from all the action you can check them out here: http://jgphotography.smugmug.com/gallery/7223524_Hy6XL/1/464110592_a5ePt

Some great pics.

But to be honest, I can't stand looking at photos with "water marks" or what ever you want to call them plasterd right in the center of a good photo................

I understand completely BLACKZ. I hate having to use watermarks. But, I use them out of respect for the other photographers like Chris Simmons and Brian Epps that have allot of money invested in their photography businesses and pay the track for exclusive marketing rights. If my or any other photographers images were not marked they would be very easy to copy and print. Despite the copy protections there are workarounds. I try and make up for having to use the watermark by giving you very large images to view. I could go the ohter way and give you a samll worthless image that has no watermark. I prefer the former, and I think that most others would agree.

Regardless, this way someone that is really interested in an image will buy from those that pay to be out there shooting. I dont do this for allot of money, in fact, I dont make allot of money doing this. I have made just enough to pay for some really nice equipment. I either shoot for a track directly or in this last case was shooting for DRAG ILLUSTRATED. So hopefully in the future you will see some of these images unwatermarked in the magazine. I like the art of it, and I hope others like the images also. I try and give you a feeling for what the race was like and give you the best images that I can.

How does MTP guy do it ?

I don't know who MTP guy is. If he chooses not to watermark that is his choice. As I said there are several drag race photographers that actually make a living in this profession. I don't have to therefore I choose not to infringe on their business.

I dont think the watermark is much of a distraction. Its nice to hear one photographer looking out for another. Great shots JGP!

those smugmug 3x pics are ~1600x1063x519k, which imho, isn't enough picture data to make a good professional print from, but people steal 'em anyway.

clean photos, thanks for the post.

I disagree, I have walked into motorcycle shops and seen images of mine that were posted at lesser resolutions that were uprezed into 16x20 images. The software available will allow you to make some very nice enlargements. It just depends on how bad you want the image.

Thanx John, it was perfect. Clear skies, cool air, low humidity, no haze it was really nice, and even better the wind was blowing the tire smoke away from the photography area, even better! Email me your # will ya.

If people to cheap to pay for a pic. wouldnt steal them we wouldnt have to watermark or right click protect. Had some people steal a snowmobile pic. I took and made copies and were selling signed ones. It's frustrating as hell. Some people say if its on the net they can use it, those people you will never get to understand.

Does it cost money to watermark them?

On the more advanced hosting sites they include the capability to import and use your own watermark. You can also buy programs that allow you to put a watermark on an image. So the answer would be yes to both but once you have the software to create and apply the WM your done.

Wow, very nicely said, I do event photographer with Simmons, Epps, and Grice, and we run into that problem alot. I was shooting pinks all out in Sonoma California and we had someone shooting from the stands and selling 5x7s for like $5.

But I have found people will do what they can and take your images off the net watermarked, right click disables or whatever they still get them. But I still watermark everything I put on the net. People even think that when they buy a photo from us they have the right to use it however they want, like scan it, reproduce it and etc. but they dont realize that unless you buy the digital negetive its still in copyright violation.

anyways Im done with my rambeling.
