I currently have a Canon 30D, Tamron 17-50 f2.8, Tamron 28-75 f2.8, Canon 50-250. I'm also planning on getting a 50D sometime this year.
I'm planning on getting a 70-200. I want the Canon 70-200 f2.8 IS, but that is beyond my funds right now.
So my question is, what are your thoughts on the Sigma 70-200 f2.8. I can get a used one for about $500 or maybe a little less. Everything i've read is that is is very good but the Canon is better.
Thanks for your comments and suggestions
I have the canon 2.8 IS and a good friend has the sigma which I've used several times, often just to compare. The Canon is nicer, the IS is helpful at times, it is just the slightest bit faster focusing and a touch sharper but even the non-IS is $900+ used which is pretty hard to swallow on a budget. I doubt that any client of mine would ever be able to tell what lens it was shot with and if you've not used the canon you will really like the sigma.
On a side note, you've got a bunch of overlap with the two tamrons you have. Why not sell the 28-75 to add some funds for the canon version or a nice prime?

That is good point on the overlap. I have the 50-250 and the tamron 28-75 (got it with the camera, both used) to use for around the yard and taking photo's of the kids and going places with them. I have given some consideration to selling the 28-75 since i've gotten the 17-50.
I was looking at the sigma as a lens to learn with until i can afford the canon 2.8 IS.
On the prime suggestion, what would you suggest? I was thinking a 135L f2.0 or the 200 f2.8 would be a good lens.

There is no comparison, you dont need the is either and I think others will tell you the same.
