I'm looking at putting a 500 or so inch bbc & glide in my car.
Is there going to be an issue with the K-member? I'm looking at the AJE droped mount one w/ chevy mounts. Am I going to run into trouble with pan clearance? I can't see running more than a 4.25" stroke, most likely a 4" stroke. Bt I am goign to run a nice Stef's/ hamberger pan. Am I looking for trouble?
Wiil I need to converter to a pinto style rack?
Also as for headers, is there a "bolt in" type swap for this? 9.8 deck, w/ like a dart pro 1 head. Nothing crazy exotic. Just not looking to have to have headers built while motor in the car.
Thanks

George Klass might be able to help with this one. I do know that the AJE rack accepts a Fox Body Mustang rack. You can have AJE drop the rack 1 1/2" lower for oil pan clearance. They don't charge extra to drop the rack.

Any style BBC rearsump pan will work in your application with the aftermarket k-members and rack. The issue you will have problems with is the distributor clearing the firewall. You really need a front crab style distributor on the motor if you can afford it.
As for headers, you can get a set from LEMON'S in California as long as you are using conventional style BBC heads. They make off the shelf/custom headers for this BBC to FOX application.
I'm assuming you'll be running a motorplate and midplate, no issues there. Get the AJE tranny crossmember if you can, makes things easier and gives you more clearance for headers/exhaust/mufflers.

If I was you I would get at least a 1 1/2 inch drop K member with pinto style rack to gain enough oil pan clearance if you want the motor to sit in the car at 0 degrees. I just installed a BBC in a fox body car. The best I could get my motor to
sit with a mustang rack was 1.5 degrees down in the back do to the oil pan wanting to hit the rack. As far as headers i would buy a weld up kit, then have someone make them to your car. If you buy lemons headers then you have to install the engine where they want it.

The car has a tubular k-member already for a ford. I was trying to stay away from a motor/mid plate set up. If I wasn't I'd use the k-member that's in the car and cut the mounts off.
If I can get a bolt in k-member that's up to snuff I'd like to do it.
I plan on running a regular head on the car. Nothing exotic.
quick1973: What size hood did you guys put on the car to clear the motor?
Ulitimate goal here is to run in the bottom 8's on nitrous. I race in a local 6.0 class, but they also have some "out the back" races too. I have a 347 in the car now that'll go 6.0, but I don't even show up for the out the back casue I don;t have the power to run 5.60's like most of the rest of the guys.
So my thoughts are a big bore short stroke bbc because the class requires a 28X12.50 et street tire and I'm running stock suspention. Make the power, but kill a bit of the torque.
Is there a dist that clears? What about a small cap MSD? I'd like to do a crank trigger set up, how does that change things? If at all?

You can clear a large dist. by trimming the lip on the firewall and putting a little massage action to that area (hammer). Regardless of cranktrigger or not you need as big a cap as possible so you can be flexible with the launch retard and not have phasing issues.
6" cowl hood will clear unless you what to run an extremely tall manifold and spacers.
You will be better off using motor plates, getting those mounts off the side of the motor does wanders for header clearance, and it probably cheaper than buying a new k-member.

A BBC in a Ford? That's like a gay marrige, LOL. Give Dan Lemons a call at (805) 239-8998. Ask Dan if his headers will have any interfearence issues with the steering shaft if you lower the engine in the chassis using dropped mounts.
