It seems as our government is going after the smokers in this country. They are banning place after place from smoking. Companies have joined into the ban. Insurance companies have seen yet another place to draw profits from. My question is? Isn't drunk driving the number one killer on American roads? Doesn't drinking cause violence and kill people by liver cancer as well as other health risks? When I smoke I know it can harm the people around me over a period of time, so I don't smoke near non-smokers. Now how about the drunk that leaves the bar at 2:00AM to head home? Does he not put people at risk? Our country is on a rapid downslide and the government is looking at ways to kill America's money makers little by little. When tobacco companies are run out of business, who do you think will make up for the billions of dollars paid in taxes a day that smokers pay? Again I believe we have too much government in our life. This is supposed to be a free country with less government.. But every time I turn around the government is telling us what is good for us.. bad for us.. What to do and how to do it!! United States of China is just around the corner. We all see it and can care less about it.. I dont know about you guys.. But I’m learning how to speak Chinese..

So should we allow the government to make the calls for smokers or should the private business owner have the freedom to have a smoking or non smoking place.. If ya wanna ban something bad.. Start with liquor...

This is my rant today brought to you from Chi-Town... :-D

Monty, I as a smoker have been saying this for years. Drinking destroys familys and friends, let alone lives. As far a banning it, it will never happen since all the politicians drink. Just look at the ones that have been in trouble for it. How about Pa State Rep. Druce, killed a pedestrian in Harrisburg Pa. Claims he didn't know he hit anyone. When he was caught he was now sober. The person he killed was a street person. Oh well. The women who was a wife of an Phila. Eagles official, killed a person, turned the leased vehicle in early to hide it. When she was caught they smacked here on the wrist and let her go. If you are a drunk, just run and turn yourself in later, they can't do anything. Just keep drinking and killing the inocent. My .02. Ray

lol...what do you do if you're the government? Simple....fill all the bars with Keno while not allowing new casinos to be built and give the people somewhere to gamble and drink, and finally...lower the legal blood alcohol level so they can get nailed on the way home, pay the state fines and the increased insurance rates. But no.....they wouldn't do that!

Sure it is called prohibition it worked so wonderfully back in the 1920's why not try it again. Drinking does not directly impact me like the smoke from a cigarette does when you sit beside me in a bar or resturant.

Now when you get behind the wheel or any mode of transportation that you direct then that is a different story. I also know many people that have been in accidents for cherries, ashes, butts and stuff falling in their laps while driving too. Even one that had the cherry fly back and hit them in the eye.

I see more people smoking than drinking. So the $$$ spent on the backend is perportional to usage.

The facts are startling:

DWI crashes kill 45 persons every day in the U.S., about one every 32 minutes.

More than one million Americans are injured every year in drunk driving crashes.

Drunk driving is the most frequently committed violent crime in the nation.

Alcohol use is the number one drug problem among young people.

Alcohol-related traffic fatalities claim the lives of more than 2,200 young people (ages 15-20) every year.

Alcohol-related crashes cost our society $45 billion each year

Remember 2nd hand smoke does not kill you the first time you encounter it. But the actions of a drunk in a head on collision is pretty deadly!! The stats above are people who were killed by drunk drivers. Should I search the people arrested each year for DWI? or people who had their lived F'ed up by drinking?

About 40 percent of all crimes (violent and non-violent) are committed under the influence of alcohol. (Bureau of Justice Statistics, 1998)

Less than 1/4 of 1% involved a smoker!! Ask anyone if they knew of anyone who was killed by a drunk driver and im sure the answer would be yes.. some would give you 3 or 4 stories.. Now ask everyone how many people they know were killed by second hand smoke???

I agree smoking needs to be delt with!! But why focus on a problem that is way down on the list? << answer is MONEY!!! Where are the warning lables on alcohol bottles? But yet they want to increase the size of the warning on cigarette packs.. Funny how the government sued the tobacco companies and won billions of dollars.. How many smokers seen the money from that suit?

It's because Hillary Clinton got pissed off at the tabaco industry for not supporting her husband and making donations. That's what started all of this. As long as ALL politician are drunks they will never stop drinking. Just ask the Kennedy's!!! Now it's fashionable to smoke cigars, they even have cigar rooms and women smoking them. That's ok!!!!
