thanks. def a nice trophy!
haha about the RR bb gun comment.
but your right, they could be anywhere. it was just crazy after 14 yrs of not even thinking about it i saw her ya know....
she wasnt really big - about 200lbs and around 6ft standing straight up.
I am an avid hunter and not a tree hugger but I have a question. Do you eat the bear meat or do you just kill them for the trophy? We do not have bears here in Tx.

If you were out and didnt even expect to see a bear that begs a question.
Did you have the bear permit or do you even need them in PA?

Congrats on a really nice blacky! That is definately a mature bear, a true trophy! The head looks big & the ears small. Most people don't don't realize that the "average" black bear taken is 150lbs. They are the hardest animals to judge (for score) in the woods, you need to see alot of them before it starts to click. I've taken a few & seen quite a few & still don't have a real good handle on it. 2 years ago I passed on a very good boar, 300lb plus (after reviewing 1+ hour of video later that night that I took) because I wanted to "trophy" hunt. Still kicking myself for that!!! Heres a pic of a 250 lb that I took a few years back.
And to answer the other question, the meat is great. I usually make roasts, ground, jerky & pepper sticks. It's not elk or moose but it's still very good, on par with deer.

bdg - yes, we did eat the meat. i wouldnt kill something just for the thrill or the trophy. the meat was actually DELISH! i grew up on deer meat and actually liked the bear meat better and i was hesitant on trying it.
deskjockey - yes, you need a permit and yes i had one :)
qtr_miler - nice trophy you got there too. congrats!!
white mule - lmfao!!! NO it doesnt taste like PORK. it taste more like steak.
